How Does AI Increase Productivity at Work?

1. You can use it to "work smarter"
2. You can have knowledge at your fingertips
3. You can tailor generative tools for your own workflows

We’ve previously explored different perspectives on AI and its impact on efficiency at work, gathering insights from various people at Devōt. From tech lead and QA engineer to product designer and talent acquisition specialist, everyone shared their thoughts on how AI is reshaping the workplace.

Now, while AI is a broad concept, we’re again focusing specifically on generative AI tools that are directly applied to employee productivity in day-to-day tasks. We could divide in three areas on how AI increases productivity at work.

1. You can use it to "work smarter"

Today’s job market demands more than just specialized skills — it thrives on employees with holistic knowledge. Being a jack-of-all-trades (and maybe even a master of some!) is becoming the new standard. Whether you're into content marketing, SEO, UX, or all of the above, staying versatile is essential. But with this versatility comes a lot of routine work. Mundane tasks like data entry, scheduling, or even debugging code can drain time and energy, pulling you away from high-value tasks that demand creativity and problem-solving.

Automating repetitive tasks isn't just about working faster — it’s about working smarter. AI-powered tools are already transforming business processes by handling the boring stuff, giving developers, marketers, and professionals more time to focus on deeper, more complex problems. And if you’ve dabbled in prompt engineering, you know that AI solutions depend largely on how well you frame the problem. It's not magic. The faster you delegate routine tasks, the more time you have to tackle strategic thinking and creative things.

2. You can have knowledge at your fingertips

One of our tech leads, Marko, said that for him, AI enables a smooth transition between learning and doing. Tools like GitHub Copilot provide real-time code suggestions, speeding up the process of writing and learning. You still have to come up with solutions, but why not supercharge your problem-solving by combining your skills with AI’s capabilities?

Of course, it’s crucial to use AI wisely. As our QA, Leo, rightly points out, over-reliance on technology can dull creativity. People today are constantly stimulated, rarely bored, and that may stifle innovation. True creativity often comes from moments of reflection.

While AI tools can enhance productivity, we shouldn’t forget the value of hard-earned knowledge. For younger generations especially, learning to balance AI’s assistance with critical thinking is key. AI isn't going anywhere, so instead of fearing it, we should learn how to use it to enhance productivity and foster deeper learning. In the workplace, AI is an invaluable tool — but not a replacement for humans.

3. You can tailor generative tools for your own workflows

AI isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution — and that’s where its true power lies. Imagine creating your own AI-powered assistant that understands the nuances of your industry and speeds up your day-to-day tasks.

Customizing AI tools means they adapt to your unique challenges — whether that’s automating routine tasks or enhancing productivity by offering valuable insights right when you need them. This level of personalization not only increases productivity but also ensures the AI solution fits your exact needs.

Generative AI is transforming the way industries work, making it easier to build tools that speak your language — literally and figuratively. For example, we started with AI chatbots when we developed our own - named Ante. We personalized it for our company and developed a tool that helps employees with the company's policies, benefits, and procedures.

Our Head of AI Research, Sandro, taught us how developing custom GPTs is not limited to just people who have coding skills!
